Bridging the Podcast Know-How Gap with Great Questions and Attitude with Robert Puzzitiello, Producer of The Ins & Outs with Mackie Podcast

Apart of my series of interviews about “5 things you need to know to create a bingeable podcast”, I had the pleasure of interviewing Robert Puzzitiello, Digital Marketing Manager at Mackie.

Robert has a background in content creation, broadcasting, and video production. He produces “The Ins & Outs with Mackie” an artist /music industry interview series that is made using Mackie’s creator-based products.

Can you tell us the “backstory” about why or how you got started as a podcaster?

I got involved at my college radio station as a hobby, but it turned out I was putting my time in to lead to future opportunities like my gig with Mackie. Live sound came to a screeching halt back in February with concerns about the global health situation, so we had to react quickly and create a new way to stay in touch with our users.

Can you share a story about the most interesting thing that has happened to you since you started podcasting?

I think the realization that you have created a platform for yourself and others is the most exhilarating part of creating a podcast. We get to meet with incredibly diverse guests from any background: musicians, content creators, charities, educational programs, etc.

Can you share a story about the biggest or funniest mistake you made when you were first starting? Can you tell us what lesson you learned from that?

Fortunately, there haven’t been any huge gaffs. We just keep moving forward. If you watch the series from the beginning, you’ll see the production get tighter and the quality start to improve gradually. We decided to just jump the hurdles and keep running. (There’s a joke somewhere in there about Mackie’s mascot being a “running man,” I’m sure.)

How long have you been podcasting and how many shows have you aired?

The Ins & Outs with Mackie began in May and has released a new episode every other week, we’ve aired 12 episodes so far with no signs of slowing down!

What are the main takeaways or lessons you want your listeners to walk away with?

Mackie has a lot of users ranging from beginners to veteran professionals. I think we are trying to help bridge the gap and help our users see the possibilities of where their creative endeavors might take them. We often walk away from an interview feeling inspired, and I hope that translates to the general audience.

Podcast Influencer, Mackie producer Robert Puzzitiello of The Ins & Outs with Mackie shares the best ways to:

1) Book Great Guests. Once you have created your platform don’t be afraid to just cold-call a guest you want to be involved. Make sure they are a good fit for the format and would be genuinely interested in having the conversation with you. You’ll be surprised.

2) Increase Listeners. Pay attention to what resonates with your audience, try new things, and try to identify where you noticed a spike in viewership.

3) Produce in a Professional Way. You’ll develop your skills as you keep moving forward, but it doesn’t hurt to invest in some quality equipment.

4) Encourage Engagement. Find ways for people to interact: ask (and answer) questions, suggest topics or guests, host giveaways. Your audience wants to be involved, provide those opportunities for them.

5) Monetize. Unfortunately monetization is still a secret to me, but maybe there’s a pro audio manufacturer out there who will sponsor your show!
